Family Relationships

“It’s hard to really celebrate and realise the meanings and importance of holidays and special occasions sometimes – especially if you aren’t surrounded by family and friends.”
That is the opening sentence from an article entitled “The Importance of Family” that appeared in Australia’s Reach Out.

“Gatherings with your relatives may be more important than you think. Did you know that familial encounters not only provide positive experiences, but also can play a large role in how successful and happy you are in life?”
That is the opening paragraph another article that is also entitled “The Importance of Family” that appeared in one of the many web pages of ENC Today.

Have you ever heard the phrase “sibling rivalry?” Siblings is a word that refers to brothers and sisters. Relationships amongst siblings, both as children and as adults, is quite interesting.
Read the article Sibling Rivalry: Adult Siblings.

If you head on over this way, you can read the very interesting Ohio State University Fact Sheet “Adult Sibling Relationships.”

  1. Judy Hansen says:

When the elders in the family are estranged from each other, real life history is lost to the youngsters. The Native Americans knew the importance of handing down traditions. Native Hawaiians teach the young ones about the past and show them how to respect the elders. Generations change and the torch is passed down. It is sad that we, who are now the elders of the family, are not shown much respect by the younger generation.

  2. I never could understand why some people do not understand the importance of family, whether those people are brothers, sisters, adult children, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.
And while I understand that respect is not always shown by young adults, I do not understand why some adults of the younger generation actually demonstrate disrepect toward, and utter contempt of, their elder relatives.
Contrary to these things above that appear to be quite prevalent to me is my nephew Dennis Todd Hansen and niece Jacquelyn Danielle DesGrange, who unlike my other nephews and nieces have definitely demonstrated their understanding of the importance of family and both of whom are tolerant and respectful of all.

  3. I just discovered a broken embedded link in my entry here. Never fear, I found the exact same article that I referenced over at a different website and replaced the bad link.
