Friends and friendship

I highly value friends and friendship. I have found that my use of those terms, however, is much more restrictive than their use by many other people. In my mind, a friend is not just someone you know and with whom you are friendly. To me, friendship is not just a human relationship that exists when people happen to be connected because they belong to a common interest group of some kind, whether it be school, club, church, political organization, or whatever. To me, friends are people who feel a close interpersonal bond, who desire and find time to be together, who will help one another without having to be asked, who truly enjoy the company of one another, who may disagree and even argue and still not let that interfere with the friendship, and so much more. To me, friendship is a close interpersonal relationship that is not bound by time, place, or convenience.

  1. Roland,

I still define friends this way:

A friend will post bail for you, but a real friend will help you bury the bodies…

I guess it’s all in the perspective.

I would have to agree with the thoughts of the esteemed hooda thunkit. There are acquaintances and there are friends (and they know who they are). Of course, there are also Amigos.

    Let’s ride!

  3. Sh-h-h! Silencioso, mi amigos.

The bodies, they have not yet been found.

Now, we’re off into the sunset.
