Alaska

The United States of America is composed of fifty states. Purchased from the Russian Empire in 1867, organized as an American territory in 1912, and admitted as a state to the United States of America on January 3, 1959, Alaska became the 49th State, with Arizona having previously been admitted as the 48th State on February 14, 1912 and Hawaii being the 50th State having been admitted on August 21, 1959.

Alaska is geographically the largest of the 50 States. Texas is less than half the size of Alaska. Alaska is the norternmost of the states and is separated from the “Lower 48” continental states by the country of Canada.
