During my long working career, and among the several positions I had held during my 30-plus year stint at the Lucas County Job & Family Services, FKA the Lucas County Human Services Department and fka the Lucas County Welfare Department, I served a period of time as an Administrative Supervisor for Lucas County Job & Family Services. One of the service units for which I had administrative responsibility was its Adult Protective Services Unit, which had the responsibility for protecting persons age 60 and over from abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.
It’s bitterly cold this time of year in Lucas County. With that in mind, Lucas County has a message of importance to residents in regards to the 60+ population and the cold weather in which Lucas County Adult Protective Services asks neighbors to check on elderly during cold snap. Please read the following article from the Toledo Blade archives of December 6, 2008: Cold Snap puts elderly in danger.
All of us everywhere, need to make sure of the health and safety of our 60+ population, of which I am now a member.
There is a national non-profit association to share information and improve quality of services for victims of elder and vulnerable adult abuse. I suggest you visit the National Adult Protective Services Association website.
