Tony’s and Prime Outlets, Birch Run. Frankenmuth. Hiller’s, Ann Arbor.

Today saw my youngest brother, Daryl, my wife, Judy, and me, Roland, leave Toledo, Ohio on a one-day road trip north into Michigan.

First stop was at Tony’s Restaurant in Birch Run. Well, that’s not e-x-a-c-t-l-y true. The first stop was a potty break as Daryl just couldn’t “hold it” any longer. (I know – too much information.) THEN, we continued on to our first destination of Tony’s I-75 Restaurant that has been featured on “Sandwich Paradise.”

After we had our fill (literally) at Tony’s, we went across the street to Prime Outlets – Birch Run which has been called the largest outlet mall of Midwest U.S.A. Oh, my! What can I say?! Judy was in “Shopping Paradise.”

Next on our itinerary was Michigan’s Little Bavaria – the city of Frankenmuth, where we roamed the streets going in and out of shop after shop and enjoying numerous free food samples in quite a few of those that sold baked goods, fudge, candies, and cheeses. Mmmmm, mmmmm, good.

Turning our car back around to head back to Ohio, we made one more stop along the way while we were still in the State of Michigan to a great grocery store in Ann Arbor. This time in Ann Arbor, unlike our previous visits, we did not stop into either Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods Market. Nope. This time we stopped and shopped in Hiller’s. Fantastic! Fun. Great Variety. And, we got some good buys, too.

Oh, I just cannot help myself. The temptation is just too much for me! I did not put an embedded link into the phrase potty break up above there for fear it would distract you. But, I swear, you really need to click on this potty break.

  1. Amigo Roland,

Road trips like that are something that we’ll have to do some serious catching up on next summer when I have 2 good legs to stand on.

Besides Frankenmuth, (for the Family style chicken dinners) and a pickup at Geyer’s for some light and dark beer, I plan on looking up a little place called Gizzard City.

And if we can make it further “up Nort,” there’s always a mandatory stop at the Traverse Bay Woolen Company for some fantastic shopping buys.

Around Dundee are a trio of places to shop at too, Cabela’s (ammo), Jerky City (buffalo, ostrich, gator, pork and beef) and of course the St.. Julian Wineery Outlet. My favorite wine there is a little product called Shalom!

So many places, so little time. . .

    🙂

    • Amigo Dave (aka Hooda Thunkit),
I hope you are mending well on that the mend is on the fast track.
This summer, Judy and I have taken several road trips. Our first road trip this summer was to the Amish country in the area of Berlin, Ohio.
We did our trio of Dundee visits in mid-June when we stopped off at Cabela’s, St. Julian Winery, and the Russell Stover Candy Outlet. That road trip also took us to Fairlane Mall in Dearborn and to the Bread Basket Restaurant in Oak Park, Michigan. Another road trip in June took us to Shippshewana, Indiana and to South Bend, Indiana.
Last Friday and Saturday, Judy and I took a road trip to Columbus, Ohio. On Friday, we visited and took a tour of the headquarters for Graeter’s Ice Cream. Then on Saturday, we visited the Columbus Zoo.
We have also taken road trips to: Trenton, Michigan; Grass Lake, Michigan where we attended a big tent party; and to Findlay, Ohio. Scheduled on our agenda is a road trip to Toronto, Ontario and also another trip to Findlay to attend a pool party.
A few weeks ago, we took a bus trip to Windsor, Ontario.
Now then, you get better real quick. You need to get out and about. Perhaps, Judy and I can get together with you again this summer as we did earlier this summer.

  2. It is time for a return trip to all these places. Sometime next week, maybe. Anyone else want to tag along with me or meet up?
