Sticks and Stones

As a young child, I was taunted and called names by other children, as most of us have experienced. Heck, throughout my adult life, I have been taunted and called names.

But you know what? Now, even in my older adult years, people are still calling me nasty names, taunting me, and belittling me in a bullying-type manner; but nowadays, those gutless wonders, those less-than-intelligent people, do not have the courage to do so to my face. Now, they do their name-calling and engage in bully tactics on the internet, places like Facebook and blogs and internet bulletin boards and so on and so forth. An example of such that also happens to be on a very personal note involves Charlotte “Charlie” Hansen, the almost 22 year-old daughter of Garry Thomas Bogdanski Hansen, the younger son of my mother.

Just a few phrases that Charlotte has written on her Facebook page in reference to me in her attempts to demean, denigrate, and deride me in a disrespectful manner include:  “Short Man syndrome (better known as the Napoleon complex)” and “you act more as a psychologist than an uncle” and “your urge to be perceived as the intellectual” – and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Well, all I am going to say to the immature, mentally deranged people who are so inclined to disparage me  is:

Sticks and stones ….

It is my opinion that less-than-human people stoop to name calling, belittling others, when they are insecure with themselves, lack self-esteem, and do not have the intellectual capacity to have an open and honest conversation that recognizes and respects differences in opinions and perspectives.

Ad hominem attacks are the blanks that those with empty minds fire in order to hurt those with which they cannot compete on the basis of logic and reason. While these sticks and stones can bruise the fragile ego, they do far less damage by and large than the people who use them.

  2. Thank you, Tim, for your words of wisdom on this topic.
Also, I would like to express my appreciation to Charlotte Hansen (aka Charlie) for inspiring this specific blog entry on Roland’s Ramblings.

    • I do wonder, however, why Charlotte (Bogdanski) Hansen thought it was necessary to resort to name-calling in reference to me. No reason was given for the unwarranted belittling attack. Some things, I just never forget; like the fact that her father refers to me as a “half-brother” which technically is correct in that while we had the same mother, his father was William F. Bogdanski while my father was Robert C. Hansen; but Garry had his last name legally changed because he did not want a different last name than the other older children of my mother. Oh, there are so many things that Garry T. (Bogdanski) Hansen, his wife Lorraine, and Garry’s biological daughters have said and done to me just to be mean-spirited, in spite of the fact that in the past I had always “been there” for all of them. I wonder why they turned on me with such viciousness.

      • Could it be that Charlotte learned I know of her shoplifting incident or of her job dismissal for theft when she was letting her friends take merchandise through her check-out line without charging them,

That Charlotte seems to be a real loser.
