Government, Politics, Politicians, and Their Critics

It is my opinion that those who are so critical of the government, of politics, and of politicians should put up or shut up. It is easy to sit on the sidelines and moan, groan, or do nothing. I say the critics ought to become involved in a more proactive way. If they disagree with the way things are going, if they do not like our government or our elected officials, then those critics should offer themselves in candidacy for an elective position. It has gotten to the point nowadays that I am thinking that many, if not most Americans, reflect the perspective of anarchism in most of their everyday comments when it comes to the subject of government.

Furthermore, rather than a minority mindset, it seems as though the vast majority of Americans speak ill of government, of politics, and of politicians. That being said, I am reminded of the quote by Oscar Wilde:
“Democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people.”

There are many quotations when in comes to politics and politicians.

    Roland,

While I might be able to agree in principle with this, in fact not all of us will choose to make a career of politics in any of the ways that you have. I for one, don’t feel that I have to run for office or work in a campaign in order to voice opinions on the subject.

In fact, one could say that for some of us, ‘complaining’ in electronic and other media is in fact our effort to effect the change that your own efforts have done over the years (in and out of the electronic world).
