Smallville: R.I.P.

I do believe that I have watched every television series about Superman. I do believe I have also watched all there is of Superman in film.

As a young child in the 1950s, I was enamored with the Superman comic books, and those of Superboy and Supergirl.  I was also enthralled with the television series Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves. As an adult in the 1990s, I got hooked on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman starring Dean Cain. In my later adult years, I became an ardent fan of Smallville with Tom Welling in the lead role of Clark Kent that finished its ten year run last night on May 13, 2011.

Tom Welling really grew into the role of Clark Kent becoming the real Man of Steel. The television series of Smallville has now come to a close; but, the legend of Superman shall live forever. Thank you, Tom Welling for a job well done and for allowing this old man to be a kid again for the past ten years.

Of course the Superman of DC comics has just renounced his US citizenship in favor of becoming a citizen of the world. Which I suppose may likewise mean the death of “truth, justice, and the American Way”.

It was a good finale last night & I’m going to miss that show. It was definitely my favorite show to watch. Were you able to watch it?
