“On this day in comedy in 1970 The Flip Wilson Show premiered on NBC.”

Flip Wilson created the role of Reverend Leroy, a fast talking Preacher that tells the truth as well as lying and conning you at the same time, who was the minister of the Church of What’s Happening Now!

The Flip Wilson Show was an hour-long television variety show that aired in the United States from September 17, 1970 to June 27, 1974. The show was one of the first American television programs starring a black person in the title role to become highly successful with a white audience.

    Flip Wilson appeared at the University of Toledo in the late 60s, as I recall. My wife, Kathie, and I saw him in person. He was hilarious — extremely talented! I do not recall that he ever ran for POTUS, however. I do not think that being the star of a television show qualifies anyone to be POTUS.
